Turn over almost any serum and you will find niacinamide somewhere on the list. There is a reason for that. It is one of the most thoroughly documented ingredients in skincare, it suits virtually every skin type, and it does several jobs at once. Oily skin, dry patches, uneven tone, the first fine lines: niacinamide has something to offer all of them.
What is niacinamide?
Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3, a water-soluble vitamin the body cannot produce in sufficient amounts on its own. Applied to the skin, it absorbs easily and supports a range of processes in the skin cells. It is not magic. It is one of the few ingredients where decades of research and everyday experience point the same way.
What does it actually do?
This is where niacinamide stands out. Most actives do one thing. Niacinamide does several:
- Refines the look of pores by helping to settle sebum production
- Evens out skin tone and fades dark spots over time
- Strengthens the skin barrier, so moisture stays in and irritants stay out
- Calms visible redness and is gentle enough for sensitive skin
That makes it a useful ingredient whether your concern is oiliness, dryness, uneven tone, or simply keeping your skin steady and resilient.
Does it work for men too?
Yes. Niacinamide is about as gender-neutral as skincare gets. It helps regulate sebum, which makes it particularly effective for oily and combination skin, and it strengthens the barrier, which takes a daily hit from shaving. Skin is skin, and niacinamide works on the mechanisms, not the marketing.
How to use it
Niacinamide is one of the easiest actives to build into a routine. Use it morning and evening, after cleansing and before moisturiser, typically as a serum. It layers well with most other ingredients, including hyaluronic acid and SPF.
One tip: give it time. Texture was measured smoother after four weeks in the studies, while tone and redness keep improving over eight to twelve weeks of consistent use. Good skincare rewards patience.
Niacinamide the Jorgobé way
Our Niacinamide Serum is formulated at 5%, the dose the research supports, and built for daily use rather than occasional treatment. Like everything we make, it is vegan, made in Denmark, and free from parabens and silicones. If an ingredient is in the formula, it is there to do something.
