Pregnancy changes a lot, and skin is rarely spared. Hormones can bring breakouts, pigmentation and sensitivity, often all at once, right when the list of ingredients you are told to avoid seems longest. The good news: you do not have to stop caring for your skin. You just need to know which ingredients to look out for, and who to ask.
The one clear rule: no retinoids
The ingredient with the clearest advice against it is vitamin A in its active forms: retinol, retinal and other retinoids. They are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and that includes our retinol products. If retinol was the backbone of your routine, this is the time to put it aside, not to stop caring for your skin.
What many look at instead
Many turn to ingredients that work on the same concerns without being a form of vitamin A. Azelaic acid works on breakouts, redness and dark marks at the same time. Niacinamide is gentle and works on tone, pores and the skin barrier. Bakuchiol is a plant-derived compound that works on fine lines and firmness without being a retinoid. Vitamin C works on the pigmentation that pregnancy hormones often bring.
Still, no ingredient list can replace advice from someone who knows you and your pregnancy. Take the list with you and ask before you start.
How to read our products
Every Jorgobé product page shows the full ingredient list, so you can take it with you to your midwife or doctor. Our advice is the same for every product: if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor or midwife before use.
One last thing
Every pregnancy is different. If you are in doubt about your routine, take the ingredient list with you to your midwife or doctor. That is what they are there for, and no skincare routine is more important than your peace of mind.
