Most people who give up on vitamin C do so for one of two reasons: it stung, or it turned orange in the bottle. Both are real problems, and both come from the same place. The classic form of vitamin C, pure L-ascorbic acid, is powerful but unstable. It degrades in light and air, and it needs a low pH that many skins simply do not enjoy.
Why use vitamin C at all?
Because few ingredients do its two jobs as well. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, helping the skin defend itself against the daily assault of UV and pollution that drives premature ageing. And it works on pigmentation: dark spots, post-blemish marks and the general unevenness that makes skin look tired. The result over time is brighter, more even skin.
The stable solution
The answer to vitamin C's fragility is not to give up on it but to use a smarter form. 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid is a stabilised vitamin C derivative that keeps its potency in the bottle and releases its effect in the skin, without the sting and without the low pH. It is the difference between a vitamin C serum that works in week eight the way it did in week one, and one that quietly oxidised on your shelf.
How to use it
Morning is vitamin C's natural home, where its antioxidant protection works alongside your SPF. Apply after cleansing and before moisturiser. It pairs well with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, and patience pays: pigmentation responds over weeks, not days.
Vitamin C the Jorgobé way
Our Vitamin C Serum uses 5% 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, supported by vitamin E and astaxanthin for broader antioxidant cover. It is fragrance-free and does not sting. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor or midwife before use. Like everything we make, it is vegan, made in Denmark, and free from parabens and silicones.
